Great Drill Press For The Money

I bought my Skil Model # 3320-01 drill press a few weeks ago and I am happy with my purchase. I was looking for something affordable, its purpose would not see industrial use so this press compared to various models by Delta, Jet, Central Machinery etc. fit the need for me.

What I liked was the fact that the contents were all there and the press was actually packed very well. Nothing is worse than trying to get parts that are suppose to be there but mine was complete. There is however a couple of things that might raise an eyebrow but is easily solved:

1) The drill press head pressed plate that receives the motor plate was not flat so the Motor Pulley and Spindle Pulley would not align. I took the press head plate to a nearby metal shop and they flattened it (took two seconds) for free - solved.

2) Maybe I’m being nit-picky but the laser can be touchy to adjust - it works. The battery compartment for the laser is also plastic so be tender with it.

In my opinion, it is a very good drill press. The press is more quiet than I thought and the workings very smooth. It may not have the power others have but if your patient and use sharp bits you’ll be pressed to beat the price.

Update (2/7/2012): This item is currently on sale here for the lowest price I’ve seen.

Nice drill and price–if you can take a little risk!
For the same price or less than a “hobby” drill you can have a real industrial product–if it gets to you intact! The packaging was totally inadequate to say the least. I received it dented, missing pieces and a manual. The styrofoam liner was torn into small pieces, I think the bubble wrap may have saved it. Amazon customer service was pleasant and offered me a small discount. Skil customer service was great and sent me one of the missing parts for free! I can find the rest at the local hardware store, and the manual is online. So buyer beware. If it was not working, it would have been a huge hassle to try and return, not to mention trying to repack. Good luck!

Not that good a deal, even if you don’t mind the risk
The assessment, in which packaging is not a joke. If you are a working pressure end a good deal. Someone had bent the metal on top and the laser was broken battery door cover, but it still works. Update: Now that I have examined Lowes price for a new one. Spent the extra $ 10 and get a new one. This is not really large enough to reach an agreement.
